COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course English 2 is an intensive course designed to help foreign students reach the B2 level of mastering English, which is an obligatory pre-requisite for entering university studies in the Czech Republic.

There is a team of teachers working in each group, including a native speaker.

The standardised B2 examination held at the end of the academic year/second semester is a part of the course. 

Requirements:

active participation in class, 80 % attendance, sitting all progress tests including the credit test at the end of the winter term and the examination at the end of the summer term, submitting all written assignments

The goal of this course is for the students to augment their overall knowledge of the English language, concerning all the four language skills involved: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. It should enhance their communicative competence in terms of vocabulary, grammar, intelligible pronunciation, listening comprehension, coherent organization of information at sentence and discourse levels. The very aim of the course is for the students to substantially increase their potential to pass the standardised B2 examination held at the end of the second term. 


The course includes all the common types of exercises and activities used under the umbrella term of Communicative approach to ELT, which should enhance the knowledge of students and their language competencies within all the four skills tested in the standardised B2 examination: Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading. The writing assignments will focus on both content and form, including spelling and punctuation.
